This was our 6th consecutive year of the Lee Miller Memorial Fun Fly held at the SMAA Field.  This event continues to grow in and we had an outstanding event this year. Thank you to all the pilots that attended and supported our club. You generosity was tremendous! The club has great appreciation for Things With Wings whose generosity made this year's event such a grand success.

Here are some memories captured that day (more to follow), if you have any pictures I'd appreciate you sending them to me for inclusion here.

July 26th and 27th

Lee Miller Fun Fly - Lee Miller Tribute

Our 2nd Annual Lee Miller Memorial Fun Fly was held July 26th and 27th. About the only bad thing to say about the entire weekend? I think everyone ate way too much! Thank you so very much to Bill and Sue Messner and their family. In fact, thank you falls way too short for our appreciation for the weekend you setup and the food and fellowship.  Thank you also to all of those that helped make it such a great weekend!

We had visitors from Cheyenne Wyoming (Travis), Greeley, Bennett, Byers CO, Rick from Kimball Nebraska and even someone from Chino California! I'm terrible with names (next time a guest sign in sheet would be nice) so please excuse me for not remembering all of your names. SMAA was glad to have all of you there.

As the following pictures will show, there were several different types of aircraft and a few mishaps did occur. It was a great weekend and I for one learned a great deal more about our hobby/sport!

Getting Started - Day 1
Lined up in the pit area
C & L EZ Flight brought several planes down. Didn't get a chance to visit with them much but they are a Flight School from Byers CO, I believe.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong

Brian from Greeley brought this nice Stik.
Brian has it in the air, it flies rather well.
Larry' Chipmunk and Cub in the background. Chipmunk flies inverted very well.
Our friends from Greeley brought these down. "I feel the need, the need for speed"
This is what happens when a fast moving winged object makes contact with the earth at a high rate of speed.  Unfortunate to be sure, but something special to watch!
Taking some downtime during the heat of the day. Plenty of laughter and lies to go around...
Harry from Pecks Planes in Greeley brought this snazzy little job. I wish I would have wrote down the technical data on this.
Beautiful...
Propane ignition, Kerosene fuel. 8 minutes of flight on a 50oz tank.
Sounds just like the real thing. In the vernacular of modern times, it's "sick"
Jim from Things With Wings in Greeley brought this Ultra Stick. He can actually fly this pretty good! :-)

Technical difficulties brought this plane down on it's 2nd flight of the day, we're really sorry John.
Ray' Twin, sharp on the ground, a real treat in the air.
SMAA President Marv brought this. He's not used to flying planes that have landing gear!
Plain... get it? :-)

An out of town visitor brought this, not sure who... sorry...

Lee Miller Memorial Fun Fly!  Over the years Lee was instrumental in the promotion of RC flying in our area.  Lee was always there to help the new guys, help maintain our flying field, and do what ever he could to help our club. Let us not forget that Lee served our country!  Lee flew away his military career in the belly of a B29 bomber.  Lee did not talk often about his experiences in the B29 but when he did all was quiet and those present were attentive.

In RC fashion, we dedicated our flying field to Lee and fly in tribute to our fallen friend so that we might not forget those who came before us.  Please come and join us every 4th weekend in July to pay tribute to those who have come before us and served community and country!
